Name "T. Miyake" appears in English across top of marker.

Chalk was applied to the tombstone to highlight the inscription. It was later washed off and did not harm the marker.

The Japanese inscription runs from top to bottom, starting at the right.

The first (rightmost) column, romanized in the conventional manner, reads "Genseki Okayama-ken Tsukubo-gun." The English meaning is "Originally from Okayama Prefecture, Tsukubo District."

The second column reads "Shoumura Aza Matsujima(?)" (I am not sure of the "jima", or possibly "shima," because the kanji character does not seem to be a current standard Japanese character). In any case, this is simply more detailed location information, meaning "the Shoumura section, Matsujima."

The third column reads "Yue Miyake Tsuchitarou no Haka," meaning "the Grave of the late Tsuchitarou Miyake."

The fourth column reads "Issen-kyuuhyaku-juuichinen hachigatsu juuichinichi nai," meaning "Died on the 11th day of the 8th month (August) of the year 1911."

The last column reads "Tounen sanjuukyuu sai," meaning "39 years old this year."
